Scott Emslie

Career Highlights:
Building Center of Gravity has been filled with many challenges and highlights, but for me the greatest highlight is the awesome team that we've created over the past 8 years. Keloha was an amazing festival and although we won't be continuing it, I'm very proud of the three great year's it had. Harvest Haus is a highlight because of the amazing response it got in it's inaugural year. This festival has great potential and with the talented team we have, I look forward to building it into a marquee event for Vancouver.

Favourite Pastimes:
I enjoy snow skiing and beach volleyball. I also love to travel and try to take
advantage of any opportunity to experience new cultures and cities.

Kelly Shepherd
Event Producer

Career Highlights:
For almost two decades, the entertainment / event industry has been part of my life and my greatest passion. Growing up in my father's nightclub, I was mesmorized and inspired by the talent routing through. I went on to study audio engineering and have worked on a variety of projects including wake-boarding/skating/snowboarding competitions and camps, fashion shows, live art installations, numerous concerts, festivals and special events. I am very proud to have been a part of the Wet Ape team since its inauguration in 2007.

Favourite Pastimes:
My favourite things in life include: my singing dog Panda, my horse Zena, playing
music, supporting live music, board sports, motorcycles, old school convertible
cars, and my recent endeavours crafting.

Why the event industry?
I was once told to find what you love in life and make a career of it. Then you will
always be happy and be great at what you do! I love music, having fun and working
hard.

Pyper Geddes
Event Director

Career Highlights:
After receiving a diploma in Event and Promotions Management, I started my career in events working at Habitat - a live music and special events venue in Kelowna - where I honed a variety of skills including bookings, promotions, broadcasting, and venue management. In 2013, I joined Wet Ape and have enjoyed working within the small team dynamic and contributing my skill set to help produce awesome events across the province.

Favourite Pastimes:
I love taking advantage of the beautiful outdoors in BC! Snowboarding, wakeboarding,
camping, music festivals and patios are at the top of my list.

Why the event industry?
I've been attending shows and concerts since I was in junior high
and have always had
a passion for live music. That along with the drive to work in a fast-paced environment,
far from the 9-5 grind, is how I found myself working in events.

Liam Peyton
Event Producer

Career Highlights:
Having been given the opportunity to advance my hospitality/bar management background into an event producing role with the Whistler Village Beer Festival in 2013 really opened my eyes to the events and festivals world. Having grown that festival and had the chance to work with event/festival giants such as Tough Mudder, Wanderlust, Cornucopia and the Pemberton Music Festival really helped build my experience and knowledge of the industry. I first worked with Wet Ape on the Kelowna expansion of WVBF, the Great Okanagan Beer Festival, utilizing Scott and his great team to execute the event. Career highlight would definitely being the recipient of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce's Excellence Awards "Rising Star of the Year" for my community impacts of the Whistler Village Beer Festival.

Favourite Pastimes:
I spent my first 7 years in Canada living and working in Whistler BC so I love my outdoors, skiing, biking, hiking and fly fishing. Also, given my background in craft beer festivals - enjoying a good pint with great people is always at the top of my agenda!

Why the event industry?
You can't beat that feeling when you see your event guests having an amazing time and knowing you're creating a great memory.

Ben Bentley-Brown
Event Producer

Career Highlights:
The beauty of the events industry is every successful event is a highlight. Seeing people enjoying themselves and forgetting about everything else is an amazing feeling after planning an event and seeing it to fruition. Having started my own events company at 18, some particularly special highlights include being named the City of Surrey’s Entrepreneur of the Year, one of Surrey’s Top 25 Under 25, and Simon Fraser University’s Entrepreneur of the Year. In my mind, these awards really legitimized what I was doing and opened up the possibility of a more permanent career in entertainment. As part of the Wet Ape team I look forward to producing even bigger and better events.

Favourite Pastimes:
Traveling, music, motorcycles, hiking, reading and cooking. Oh, and music again.

Why the event industry?
I fell into it by accident while studying for an engineering degree and was immediately enraptured by the industry and everything about it. It helped me find a creative side in myself that was unaware of before.

Lara Bannister
Operations Manager

Career Highlights:
Running away and joining the circus is always something your parents joke about when you're a kid, but when it became a reality for me, it solidified my feeling that the event industry was where I belonged. This industry has taken me some crazy places from working with Cirque du Soleil in Toronto, to a 10,000 person yoga class in Central Park, to festivals on mountains and festivals for foodies! Having been heavily involved in productions such as the Opening Ceremony for the Pan American Games, Brewery & the Beast, Tall Tree Music Festival, Rifflandia Music Festival and many others has allowed me to learn and develop skills that I am now excited to bring to the table at Wet Ape. The fact that I get to continue doing this as a career is a highlight it's self!

Favourite Pastimes:
When I'm not working, you can find me swinging lefts and rights - boxing up a storm at the gym, biking around on my nobel steed of a Miele, or nerding out over spreadsheets and coding.

Why the event industry?
Everything I love to do presents it's self in beautiful harmony in this industry. I get to organize everything from spreadsheets and people to sea-cans of inventory. I can be in the office 9-5 one day then on site lifting things and grinding it out with the team the next! Every day is excitingly stressful and keeps me on my toes, constantly adapting to different environments, people, and places. There is no question this is the industry I belong in.

Aaron DeSilva

Career Highlights:
Starting at an early age, I decided I would be that guy to host the events. The rush of organizing each tiny detail, to ensure the unknown would be successful, has always intrigued me. In combination with my passion for musical performance,  I have been able to successfully build a band from the ground up, into a successful business. A marketing grad with over 10 years of practical experience, ready to make a difference.

Favourite Pastimes:
I'm a musician/DJ/foodie and enjoy skateboarding, snowboarding, road trips and
coffee shops.

Why the event industry?
Working in a rewarding industry that challenges me day to day is a
dream come true.
